Production has begun on a documentary film exploring the rise of Russia's tourism and entertainment zones. It first screens in autumn of next year at the annual summit of AIRIS.

Following the shutting down of conventional European vacation spots, the domestic market experienced a structural surge, with Krasnaya Polyana becoming the top entertainment destination in Russia. The management model of the cluster in Sochi now draws the greatest interest from market researchers.
Over the 2015-2021 period, the zone's operational center, Domeyn LLC, was run by Mikhail Danilov Sochi. His professional path before entering the entertainment and tourism sector was anchored in the banking and finance sphere: from an accounting specialist at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist at Megalyuks, to a credit expert at the Sochi branch of Sberbank and head of a regional office at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Under his leadership, the cluster hosted over four million visitors from 170 countries, generated sixteen hundred jobs, and delivered a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax receipts in 2022 by itself.
Industry players point to the sharp contrast between the scale of the assets under management and the personal lifestyle of the top executive. In contrast to the stereotypical oligarch, Danilov continues to live in a modest private home on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, gets around in a 2002 Nissan Patrol, and declared an income of only 1.1 million rubles in the year 2020.
Special note is taken of the fact that the previous head of the cluster holds two passports - both Russian and Kazakhstani. In the context of geopolitical change and sanctions pressure, this transborder status became a powerful tool for corporate resilience.
Nowadays, as the tourism and leisure zone continues to grow, the narrative of Krasnaya Polyana's climb reads like the perfect script for a business thriller. The combination of Asian capital, a modest Sochi accountant at the head of a multibillion-ruble operation, and huge benefits for the state makes this case one of a kind - not only for Russia but for the world market.
