Pet hunting in Grow a Garden 2 is mostly about timing, spare Sheckles, and knowing what each pet actually does. They appear around the map for a limited time, so you can't simply visit a permanent shop whenever you feel like it. Before chasing a rare spawn, it's worth checking your Grow a Garden 2 Items options and making sure your wallet can handle the price. You can equip three pets by default, while the first extra slot costs 200,000 Sheckles.
The Unicorn and Deer Have Very Different Jobs
The Mythic Unicorn costs 12,000,000 Sheckles and doubles the chance of getting the Rainbow mutation on plants or fruit. It's a specialist pet, really. The Rare Deer is far cheaper at 50,000 Sheckles and helps plants grow 10% faster. If you're still building up your garden, the Deer is the sensible early purchase. The Unicorn becomes more attractive once you're chasing valuable mutations. Neither pet is confirmed to be free, and no guaranteed Unicorn hatch rate has been provided.
Dragon Pets and Guild Rewards
There's no confirmed pet officially called Dragons Breath. The dragon players can currently identify is the Black Dragon, a Super-rarity reward from the current Guild Competition. It breathes Frost at intruders and freezes them in place. The Ice Serpent has the same listed defensive effect and comes from a past competition. Guild Rewards may also include normal, Rainbow, Big, Big Rainbow, Huge, and Huge Rainbow pet versions, along with Common, Big, and Rainbow Eggs.
Useful Pets Beyond the Headliners
The cheaper map spawns still have plenty of value. Frog raises jump height by 5, Bunny adds 5 to walking speed, and Owl improves night-time viewing distance while warning you when a rare pet appears. Turtle gives 10 inventory slots but slows you slightly. Robin eats ripe fruit and may drop a seed, while Monkey collects ripe fruit for you. Bee, Bear, and Bald Eagle protect the garden in different ways. Butterfly boosts growth, Golden Dragonfly doubles Gold mutation odds, and Racoon steals crops at night while raising the steal limit by 25.
Eggs, Mutations, and Smart Spending
Common Eggs, Big Eggs, and Rainbow Eggs come from Guild Rewards or the Auctioneer. Place an egg in your garden and it hatches immediately. A Common Egg gives one random map-spawn pet, with a small chance of a mutated version, though the individual hatch rates aren't confirmed. Rainbow pets improve the normal effect, Big pets improve it further, and Huge pets provide the strongest known boost. Keep an eye on spawn timers, save enough Sheckles, and browse Grow a Garden 2 Items for sale when you're planning your next purchase.
